About Us

The Art Center of Burlington was founded in 1966 by a group of artists and friends with the first show at the Unitarian Church and eventually moving to its first home downstairs at the North Hill Medical Center. The very next year in 1967, the organization started the Father's Day tradition of Snake Alley Art Fair. Artists lined the alley with snow fence to hang their artwork for sale.

Now located in the heart of the beautiful historic Downtown Burlington, the Art Center showcases the works of local, and regional artists with monthly exhibits in the Gallery and one-of-a-kind artwork in the Artists Market. Children, teen, and adult art classes and workshops are offered along with special events throughout the year. Check out Art Beat for a variety of art and wine, art party, and other exciting opportunities to express your own creativity.

The Art Center of Burlington is funded by memberships, as well as grants from the Iowa Arts Council, Burlington Fine Arts League, Cullen Foundation, John H. Witte Foundation, Virginia Murray Foundation, memorials, corporate sponsorships, private donations, and special fundraising events like the Snake Alley Art Fair.

Our Mission: To nurture artistic expression and creativity in the individual and to cultivate an appreciation and understanding of art and culture in our community through eduction, exhibitions, and events.

Our Vision: The Art Center of Burlington believes the arts hold transformative potential for the individual and enhance the unique culture of our community. We strive to elevate the social culture of our community, to provide opportunities for creative expression, and to educate individuals in various forms of art.

Your participation in the Art Center's activities will broaden your artistic horizon and bring out the talent you always knew you had! If you enjoy the creative process, you'll enjoy the fellowship of other artistic and innovative people that draw, create, and appreciate at the Art Center of Burlington!

As a member you will receive a quarterly newsletter, discounted classes, invitations to openings, special events, monthly DIY group, and the chance to show during our Annual All Members Show at the end of the year. Plus your membership helps support your local art center!

Monthly Members Only DIY Group The Dabblers try out various mediums and projects in both the arts & crafts. Most of our two hour sessions are "led" by group members who have some expertise or experience to share. The goal is not to always finish a specific project but to get exposure to something new and to be with others in art & creativity. However more simple craft projects are sometimes completed. Meet the first Wednesday of the month from 7-9pm. $5 Fee. Please call 319.754.8069 by Monday of the same week to reserve a space.

We invite you to support the Arts through your Art Center monthly or yearly membership. Tax-deductable donations are also accepted and appreciated. Send a completed membership form and check to 301 Jefferson Street, Burlington, Iowa 52601 or pay online via PayPal!
