About Us
The Art Center of Burlington was founded in 1966 by a group of artists and friends with the first show at the Unitarian Church and eventually moving to its first home downstairs at the North Hill Medical Center. The very next year in 1967, the organization started the Father's Day tradition of Snake Alley Art Fair. Artists lined the alley with snow fence to hang their artwork for sale.
Now located in the heart of the beautiful historic Downtown Burlington, the Art Center showcases the works of local, and regional artists with monthly exhibits in the Gallery and one-of-a-kind artwork in the Artists Market. Children, teen, and adult art classes and workshops are offered along with special events throughout the year. Check out Art Beat for a variety of art and wine, art party, and other exciting opportunities to express your own creativity.
The Art Center of Burlington is funded by memberships, as well as grants from the Iowa Arts Council, Burlington Fine Arts League, Cullen Foundation, John H. Witte Foundation, Virginia Murray Foundation, memorials, corporate sponsorships, private donations, and special fundraising events like the Snake Alley Art Fair.
Our Mission: To nurture artistic expression and creativity in the individual and to cultivate an appreciation and understanding of art and culture in our community through eduction, exhibitions, and events.
Our Vision: The Art Center of Burlington believes the arts hold transformative potential for the individual and enhance the unique culture of our community.
